Medium garnet red with lighter edges. Very different nose than the prior four vintages. A bit herbal on the attack with roses, raspberries and some more dried red berries. Tons of tannin structure (7/10) and acidity with a medium plus body. Layered palate with mineral undertones, cherries, herbs, red plums and some spices. Long and lingering finish.
Made out of 100% Sagrantino from Montelfaco in Umbria, just north of Rome. Aged for six months in large 600L barrels, before aging for 18 months in oak barrels. Once barrel aging is complete it is aged for 12 months in glass lined concrete vats and then 12 months in bottle.
