2013 Holden Manz Visionaire
Region: Franschhoek Valley, Coastal Region, Western Cape, South Africa
First of the reds at Holden Manz with Wayne and Gerard. This is what they call their Spicy Bordeaux Blend made up of Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot, Malbec, Merlot and some Syrah.
Brickish edges with a deep to medium ruby core. Blackberry jam on the nose with all kinds of spices, sweet ones too like vanilla. Well integrated palate with medium tannins (5.5/10) and medium to medium plus body. Approachable and quaff-able with some complexity, notes of cocoa, black cherries and some jamminess. Dry backbone with a long finish.
This Spicy 'Bordeaux' Blend is made up of 35% Merlot, 25% Cabernet Sauvignon, 20% Syrah, 11% Cabernet Franc, 5% Malbec and 4% Petit Verdot. Aged for 24 months from begining to finish (blending and bottling) in a mix of 20% new French oak barrels and 80% 2nd and 3rd fill French oak. One of the larger production wines at Holden Manz and a terrific value. Perfect for the more modern style wine lover.
