2004 Pahlmeyer Merlot
Region: Napa Valley, North Coast, California, United States of America
First of our seven year vertical tonight....Scratch that the 2014 came out too.
Deep garnet red with watery edges. Cherry liqueur straight off the nose, a touch herbal, cassis and spices. Medium tannins (6/10) and medium to medium plus body. A nice spicy kick on the palate. Notes of tomato, dark berries, herbs and anise. Medium plus finish.
Made of 87% Merlot and 13% Cabernet Sauvignon. Fruit comes from the Pahlmeyer Estate, Waters Ranch, Rancho Chimiles, Caldwell, Farella and Lynch Valley Vineyards. Aged in French oak barrels for 19 months.
2015 till 2018.
Price Point:
$$$ - Current vintage can be purchased at the estate for $75.00. Only 2004 for sale is for $120.00.Crimson red and for some reason cloudy. Lots of red fruit on the nose. Very odd but slightly medicinal on the palate and full of fruit too, highly extracted. Moderate tannins (6.5/10) with a full body. Finish was a little harsh, needs some time still to integrate.
