2014 Orison Rowan
Region: Alentejo, Alentejano, Portugal
Tasting Note:May 5, 2017
Last of the Portuguese wines tasted with Dan and Filipa at there home.
Dark purplish ruby red. Powerful and dark nose on day one, with a mix of spices and sweet spices such as anise and vanilla. Bramble berries on the nose as well. Day two the nose softened quite a bit but gained a perfumey elegance to it. Medium tannins (6.5/10) and medium plus bodied. Tons of layers on the palate with a dark blue and black berry attack, herbs too and a nice spiciness. Dry and long finish.
Made up of 41% Tinta Roriz (Tempranillo), 38% Touriga Nacional, and 21% Alicante Bouschet. Aged in French oak for 16 months. Only 200 cases produced.
