2004 Château La Mission Haut-Brion
Region: Pessac-Léognan, Graves, Bordeaux, France
Deep garnet red. Muted nose, needs some time to fully open up, has some layers of bark, cedar, dark cocoa, a touch of anise, herbs and a little earthiness. Heavy tannins (8/10) and full bodied. After some breathing time this finally started to open up on the palate with some layers of damp leaves, earthiness, cherries, and tight truffles. Dry and super long finish.
First time to Bern's Steakhouse in Tampa and it was a blast, definitely worth checking out if you have not. Château La Mission Haut-Brion is located on the Left Bank of Bordeaux and known as a 'Super Second'. The 'Super Seconds' is more of a modern terminology and these estates were not included in the 1855 Classification but have been producing stellar wines for an extended period of time. The 2004 vintage us made up of 55% Merlot, 42% Cabernet Sauvignon and 3% Cabernet Franc. Additionally, wines from Château La Mission Haut-Brion are generally aged for 22 months in 100% new French oak barrels.
