2011 Lourensford Méthode Cap Classique Brut
Region: Somerset West, Stellenbosch, Coastal Region, South Africa
This is one beautiful estate, literally an entire campus. There is a school, spa, yoga studio, coffee shops, art studios, etc. Beautiful place to visit and very happy that we made it out here today.
Medium yellow with light to moderate liveliness. Light floral notes on the nose with some notes of straw, lemon curd and brioche. High mouthwatering acidity (7/10) and medium to medium plus body. A little tart on the palate bringing in some crispiness and freshness. Notes of granny smith apples, pears, biscuits and some citrus notes on the palate. Long and lingering finish.
Made up of 87% Chardonnay and 13% Pinot Noir from a vineyard around 360 feet above sea level near the Lourens River. After going through fermentation the juice was aged for 8 months on the primary lees. Halfway through fermentation, 5% was transferred to 205L French oak barrels and aged for 9 months. Prior to disgorgement this was aged for an additional 57 months. Only 3,432 bottles produced.
