2012 Dana Estates Cabernet Sauvignon Onda
Thanks Steve this was a real treat! Super dark purplish ruby red. Some light tobacco and red cherries on the nose, still pretty tight. Heavy tannins (8/10) and full bodied. Great structure and backbone coated with red cherries, raspberries, and dark cocoa leaves. Slightly dry, with a little minerality in the long finish. This is still a baby that will only get better with more time!
Comprised of four different vineyards; 38% Crystal Springs Vineyard, 31% Hershey Vineyard, 30% Lotus Vineyard, and 1% Helms Vineyard. Additionally, this is a Cabernet Sauvignon-led blend with 88% Cabernet Sauvignon, 9% Petit Verdot and 3% Merlot. Aged for 19 months in a mix of French oak and concrete egg; 58% new French oak, 31% used French oak and 11% concrete egg. Various different cooperages are used as well (five; Taransaud, Demptos, Ermitage, Baron, and Darnajou). Only 888 cases produced.
