2012 Homage Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon La Amante
We decided to try the oldest of the two first. Super deep and dark ruby red with purple hues. Complex nose with tobacco, dark cocoa, dark wild berries and cassis. Undertone of talc powder. Palate was definitely a little tight to start. Finally opened up a few hours later and on day 2 with a plethora of dark fruits and berries that completely coated our palates from the front through to the long dry finish. Moderate plus tannins (7.5/10) and full bodied. Stunning wine that needs time to fully develop, it even held itself together and kept opening up on day four! Can easily be cellared for 10 or 15 years.
La Amante is a Spanish word meaning lover, in this context it means "The Mistress". This bottling from Homage Vineyard is their finest expression of Cabernet Sauvignon. So far this has only been made in 2012 and comes from a singular block from the Estate Grown vineyard. Aged for 2 and a half years in 100% new French oak barrels. Only 120 cases produced.
2016 till 2032.
