2010 Haskell Vineyards Cape Winemakers Guild Merlot
Region: Stellenbosch, Coastal Region, Western Cape, South Africa
Tasting Note:December 21, 2015
Garnet red with some browning on the edges. Definitely needed some time to open up on the nose. Started off with some chalk and opened up with some dark cocoa and some darker fruits like plums and dark berries. A lot of red cherries on the palate. Moderate tannins (5.5/10) and a moderate body. Dries out in the long finish. Only the second Haskell wine we have tasted. We have been very fortunate that they were both CWGs. Solid and delicious merlot but still prefer the 2008 Paradigm more.
Made up of 100% Merlot by Rianie Strydom and aged for 16 months in 100% new French oak. Only 98 cases produced with 70 cases auctioned in 2013.
