2012 Venteux Vineyards Cabernet Sauvignon
First of the three reds from Venteux Vineyards. Dark ruby red with purple hues. Fruit forward nose with lots of dark berries, both blue and black, and slight cassis. Also had some slightly savory undertones. Palate was front loaded with red cherries. Moderate tannins (6/10) with balanced acidity. Moderate body and long finish. Slightly dry too.
It was a shame that the Mourvedre was flawed but the Cabernet Sauvignon, definitely made up for that slight disappointment. From what we have experienced lately it definitely seems like we are becoming bigger fans of Westside Paso Robles Cabernet. Venteux Vineyards is a small family owned estate that produces red and whites ranging from Old Vine Carignan, Gewürztraminer, Pinot Noir, Cabernet Sauvignon and many more. The entire wine-making philosophy is hands on, starting from dry farming and hand sorting to minimal intervention with only wild native yeasts. This bottling of Cabernet Sauvignon is aged for 24 months in no more than 3 year old French oak barrels. After bottling all wines are laid down for 12 months before release. Only 400 cases produced.
