2003 Araujo Estate Cabernet Sauvignon Eisele Vineyard
Deep ruby red. Rich and layered nose coated in damp forest floor, mushrooms, dusted cherries, dark berries and leather. Medium plus tannins (7.5/10) and full bodied. A bit of licorice on the palate with black berries, spices, leather, animal nuances and cherries. Long and lingering finish.
Our favorite day to go to RARE Steakhouse in DC. With 50% off all bottles, why wouldn’t you! Our last bottle of the evening was this Araujo Cabernet Sauvignon. We have only tried a Syrah from them before but could not wait for this bottle. The 2003 is made up of 88% Cabernet Sauvignon, 9% Cabernet Franc and 3% Petit Verdot from the Eisele Vineyard in Calistoga. Aged for 23 months in 100% new French oak. One of our favorite 2003 Napa Cabernets to date in line with Spotteswoode and Shafer. 2003 is not one of the most sought after vintages for Napa Cabernet but age has definitely helped with the austere nature of some wines due to the unusual timing of heat and rain throughout the growing season.
2019 till 2028.
