2014 Shafer Relentless

Deep purplish ruby red in appearance. Rich nose with pepper, black fruits, black cherries, raspberries, a bit smoked and dark flowers. Medium plus tannins (7.5/10) and full bodied. Smokey palate with complex layers of leather, blackberries, vanilla and cinnamon. Dry and long finish.
Third winery on our third day in Napa Valley is Shafer Vineyards located on the east side of the valley in the Stags Leap District. Fourth wine is their Relentless with fruit coming from their vineyards in Napa Valley (La Mesa, Ridgeback and School Bus). Made by Elias Fernandez and made up of 89% Syrah and 11% Petite Sirah. Aged for 30 months in 100% new French oak barrels.
