2012 Celani Family Vineyards Tenacious
Last of the blind wines. Deep ruby red. Toasty nose with dark sweet spices, a bit charred, tight dark red berries, leather, savory, gravel and pepper. Oddly a little Rhône like. Medium tannins (6.5/10) and medium plus body. A bit of heat with dark raspberries, quite savory too, gunpowder and some black fruits. Lots of dark gravel in the long finish.
This is made up of 70% Merlot from the Celani Family Estate Vineyard in the Oak Knoll District and 30% Cabernet Franc from the Stagecoach Vineyard. Aged for 22 months in 70% new French oak barrels and 2,161 cases produced.
2015 till 2022.

Of course the house looks like it was plucked right out of Tuscany. Beautiful estate and vineyard! Wendy Day was our host and very knowledgeable about all the wines. Another fun fact, Mark Herold is the winemaker here. The color is dark purple with ruby red edges. More greenery than I was expecting on the nose followed by a hint of cassis. Balanced with a full body and solid tannins. Structured well to age for a few years, up to 10. Light cassis and light dark fruits. A little bit of sediment which might be unusual for a 2012 but the winemaker likes his wines unfiltered. One of my favorites from the estate.
