2005 Caymus Cabernet Sauvignon Special Selection

Tasting Note:July 7, 2017

Fun blind tasting of Napa Valley Cabernets, we decided to choose two from 2011 while my Dad selected two different vintages of Caymus Special Selection.

Deep and dark purplish ruby red. Layers of oak influence, toasted, vanilla, cinnamon and dark cherries. Heavy tannins (7.5/10) and full bodied. Rich palate with bramble berries, black fruits, dark cocoa and a touch herbal. Long and lingering finish.

Fun coravined wine to finish off the celebration tasting.

Dark and deep garnet red. A touch dirty on the nose, smoky, toasty, spiced and a little bit of sweet spices. Heavy tannins (7.5/10) and full bodied. Rich and dark palate with plums, dark and black berries. Some cinnamon and rich vanilla notes too. Long and lingering finish.

Not a giant fruit bomb like the more recent vintages of Caymus Special Selection but a real treat. Definitely could of used a bit of air on the nose but delicious none the less.
