Region: Ribera del Duero, Castilla y León, Spain
Deep ruby red. Layered nose with dark fruits and spices. Notes of blackberries, anise, dark cocoa, earth and herbs. Medium tannins (6.5/10) and medium bodied. Very dark palate with quite a bit of dark fruits. Layers of dark cocoa and dark berries, both red and black. Solid acidity and a touch dry in the finish. Long finish.
Second red wine tasted blind at our quarterly wine club tasting. The white wine options were either Chardonnay or Chenin Blanc, while the red wine options were Spainish Tempranillo or Cabernet Sauvignon. Made of 100% Tinto Fino (aka Tempranillo) from vines ranging from 40 to 80 years old. Aged for 20 months in 85% French oak and 15% American oak, of which 50% are new.
