2014 Guthrie Family Wines Archival Petite Sirah
Tasting Note:April 05, 2017
Deep purplish red. Enticing nose with layers of mixed blue and red berries. A bit of black pepper, cinnamon, light vanilla and a little floral. Kept you wanting to come back for more. Not as tannic (6/10) as expected for a Petite Sirah. More elegant perhaps. Smooth with red and black berries, some raw dark cocoa and a touch of bramble. Medium to full bodied with great structure and well integrated. Long and lingering finish.
Made of 100% Petite Sirah from the Juliana Vineyard (owned by Terlato) in Pope Valley on the other side of Howell Mountain. Whole-berry fermented in open top barrels prior to aging for 14 months in 22% new American oak barrels, the rest is old French oak. Only 250 cases produced.
