2014 Sandlands Carignane
Region: California, United States of America
Tasting Note:April 18, 2017
Light garnet red. Lots of herbs and smoky notes on the nose. A little stinky too with black pepper, funk, dark crushed gravel, red berries and even a touch of roses. Low tannins (4/10) with moderate plus acidity. Layers of raspberries, strawberries, twigs, meaty, floral and a touch dusty. Light bodied with a very dry and long finish. Needed a 30+ minute decant.
Made of 100% Carignane of vines planted at the latest in 1936. 50% from Lodi in the own rooted vineyard planted back in 1936. 50% from Contra Costa County from a vineyard planted in the 1920s. Only 10 barrels produced (1,050 cases) and 12.8% alcohol.
