2014 Realm Moonracer
Super dark purplish red. High intensity and completely coats the glass. Lovely nose with gravel, bitter cocoa, dark cherries, a little bit of nutmeg, iron and tons of floral notes. Love the layers. Heavy tannins (8/10) with layers of dark fruits, dark cocoa, woody and oak influences as well as vanilla. Full bodied and super long and slightly dry finish. So much potential and finesse behind this wine. Faith renewed in Stags Leap District.
Brand new bottling from Realm Cellars. Cabernet Sauvignon-based blend with a little bit of Merlot and Petit Verdot, additionally this is aged in 100% new French oak for 18 months. Only 4,800 bottles produced. This new label is truly unique for a couple reasons. First this is the first estate vineyard for Realm. Second is the history behind this vineyard with the Wappo Native Americans who use this land as a central lookout. Lastly is because of the uniqueness of this label (coming soon).
Juan was telling us about a book writen by Jack London about the tribal races that only occurred during full moons, which was often won by the Wappo Native Americans. Thus the reason for the namesake, Moonracer.
Each wine is based on three components; Art, Nature and Science. The art of this label is actually based off the science used. The science portion is used to generate the label of the Moonracer by Juan's friend, Sergio. There are three components used; temperature, solar radiation and wind. A different set of three are entered in each time to generate a different label. Check out the video on Realm's website for more details.
