2015 Terre Brûlée Le Rouge

Estate: Terre Brûlée

Region: Swartland, Coastal Region, South Africa

Tasting Note:February 14, 2017

Medium to deep ruby red. Complex and layered on the nose, love these Swartland wines. Layered with gravel, iron, cold cuts, herbal notes, purple flowers with air and earthy undertones. Moderate tannins (5.5/10) and balanced acidity. Elegant features but with a strong backbone. Layers of red cherries, raspberries, white flowers, white peppercorn and some savory herbs in the finish. Medium bodied Rhone blend that really hits you in the rear and sides of your mouth. Dry long finish.

Relatively new winery making a red Rhone blend and Chenin Blanc out of Swartland. This bottling, Le Rouge, is made up of 60% Shiraz and 40% Cinsault. Fruit is selected and 20% whole cluster pressed. Aged for 8 months in 30% neutral French oak and the rest in stainless steel.
