2015 Assuli Winery Ruggiero

Dark ruby red. Interesting nose starting off a little gamey, before getting some earthy notes like dirt and gravel. Undertones of cinnamon, tomato cherries, and candied cherries too. Moderate tannins (6/10) and acidity (7/10). Well balanced with a medium plus body. Roasted cherries, toasted oak and strawberries on the palate. Dry with a medium finish.
First of the three reds we received from Assuli Winery. This bottling is made of 100% Syrah. Additionally this wine is Terre Siciliane IGT which is the same as DOC or Denominazione di Origine Controllata. Aged in around 3 or 4 months in stainless steel sur lees and then gets an additional 3 or 4 months in the bottle.
