2002 Bond Melbury
Tasting Note:January 20, 2017
Deep garnet, almost ruby red. Layered nose with an attack of dark berries, cassis, dark cocoa, damp leaves, graphite and almost raisinets in the finish. Definitely took some time to open up, around a 6 hour decant and tried again on day two. Full bodied with moderate plus tannins (7.5/10) and well integrated. Super dark and rich palate. Dark fruits on the attack and finish. Slight spike of red cherries in the mid palate. Plush undertones of vanilla, cinnamon, and slight stoney notes in the finish. Full bodied and lengthy finish. A bit of heat on day one but wore off a bit on day two. Delicious wine but needs a nice decant.
