2009 Bodegas El Nido Jumilla Clio
Region: Jumilla, Murcia, Spain
Beautiful wine. Dark crimson red with a purplish core. Layered nose with smoked wood, baking spices, vanilla, cinnamon, stewed and pureed berries. Bright acidity and great structure. Tons of dark fruits and plums in the attack with damp leaves and mushrooms. Moderate tannins (6.5/10) and full bodied. Very well integrated and balanced. Delicious long and dry finish.
Bodegas El Nido is a collaborative effort between the Gil Family (from Spain) and Chris Ringland (one of Australia's best winemakers) that started back in 2001. At the moment through Bodegas El Nido they produce three different wines: 1. Clio which is a Monastrell (Mourvedre) and Cabernet Sauvignon blend, 2. Corteo which is 100% Syrah, and 3. El Nido which is a Cabernet Sauvignon-based blend with Monastrell. This specific vintage is a blend of 70% Monastrell and 30% Cabernet Sauivgnon and aged for 24 months in both new French and American oak. Only 1,000 cases produced.
