2013 Steven Kent Winery Cabernet Franc BDX Collection
First wine we have tried from Steven Kent and from Livermore Valley. Crimson red with moderate intensity. Light damp wood on the nose with some blueberries and red cherries. Day two added some perfumey and floral notes. Still some slight heat. Moderate tannins (6/10) and medium bodied. Lots of blueberries and a slight cherry cola in flavor and texture. Great acidity providing a solid backbone. Moderate plus finish. Very easy going and light Cabernet Franc. Will benefit from some more bottle time.
This bottling for the BDX Collection is exclusively from Block 4 in the Gheilmetti Estate Vineyard in the Livermore Valley. This block is a total of 3.73 acres and sits at an elevation of 700 feet above sea level. Made of 100% Cabernet Franc and aged for 20 months in 20% new French oak barrels. The Steven Kent Winery was been producing wine in the Livermore Valley since 1996, with the mission 'to make Cabernet out of Livermore Valley that rivals the greatest reds in the world'. If Steven Kents wines are any indication, this is definitely an area to get in on and watch.
