2011 Scalon Cellars Cabernet Sauvignon

Estate: Scalon Cellars

Region: Coombsville, Napa Valley, California, United States of America

Tasting Note:August 12, 2017

Second of seven blind wines this weekend.

Deep garnet red with some bricking on the edges. Soft and tired nose with chalk, tomato leaves, a bit woody and green. More red berries and plums on day two. More fresh notes on the palate rather than powerful. Medium tannins (6/10) and medium plus body. Notes of red cherries, herbs, a bit of spice and cherry tomatoes on the palate. More spices on day two. Balanced acidity and good structure. Medium plus to long finish with notes of mint and minerals.

A little disappointed in how it showed, maybe it had to do with storage since we did not get this bottle through the estate. With our next bottle we will not decant, this one was given almost two hours. Made of 100% Cabernet Sauvignon from Coombsville. All from the Scalon Vineyard. Aged for 22 months in 100% new French oak, unfined and unfiltered. Only 150 cases produced.

Just as delicious as we remembered. Dark ruby red with a purplish core that just coats the glass. Nose is coated in dark berries and fruits with some light greenery. Heavy tannins (8/10) with blueberry notes, dark cocoa, so complex and layered. Cassis too and even some very light bell peppers. Full body with a crazy long finish.
