2014 Steven Kent Winery Merrillie Chardonnay
Bright yellow with medium intensity. Some citrus notes on the nose, a little singular. Develops a woody undertone. Very sharp to start with moderate plus acidity (7.5/10) with a medium body. A little nutty, slight caramel and soft undertone of butter. Long and lingering finish with some minerality to finish it off. Definitely think this needs some time to mellow out.
This Chardonnay is named 'Merrillie' in honor of Steven's grandmother, Norb Mirassou, who found the Misson Ranch Vineyard on a drive to Southern California. The 2014 bottling is the 15th vintage of the Merrillie program and is made of 100% Chardonnay from the Robert Young Clone. This wine was aged and fermented for a total of 10 months in 50% new French oak barrels and went through full malo-lactic fermentation. Only 522 cases produced.
