2015 Black Ankle Vineyards Bedlam Rosé
Region: North Central Piedmont, Frederick County, Maryland, United States of America
Only Rosé we are tasting today from Black Ankle. Bright redish pink. Lots of strawberries and raspberries on the nose as well some floral acacia notes. Some sort of savory undertone as well. Seemed pretty rounded and quite full with some good citrus notes. Moderate acidity (5.5/10) and moderate body, more than the Quartzite. A little heat in the moderate finish. Needs time to mellow out the heat, and more complex fruits will develop on the palate.
Completely different style behind the making of this Rosé. Initially the first Bedlam Rosé was made on accident, when their vineyard manager hooked up a pipe of Cabernet Sauvignon to a barrel of white wine co fermenting. Thus this Rosé is actually a blend of red and white grapes. Very interesting Rosé blend composed of: 32% Grüner Veltliner, 18% Albariño, 16% Cabernet Sauvignon, 16% Viognier, 6% Cabernet Franc, 4% Merlot, 4% Syrah, 3% Petit Verdot, and 1% Chardonnay. This bottling only had 250 cases produced. More information coming in our blog about visiting the estate!
