2013 VENN Cabernet Sauvignon
First of the reds we are trying from Young Inglewood Vineyards. Beautiful crimson red with a deep and dark core. Nose was coated with blueberries, dark cherries, and some floral undertones. Slow attack that gained some intensity in the mid palate with some baking spices and dark berries. Moderate tannins (6/10) and a moderate body, thins out a bit near the finish. Long and dry finish with some light vegetal notes.
This is a new entry level bottling offered by Young Inglewood Vineyards made of 95% Cabernet Sauvignon, 4% Cabernet Franc, and 1% Petit Verdot. All the fruit in this wine comes from two vineyards in St. Helena, the Dos A Dos Vineyard and the Young Inglewood Vineyard. Dos A Dos Vineyard is located on the backend of the Young Inglewood Vineyard. Slightly younger vines than the Young Inglewood Vineyard and planted with 100% Cabernet Sauvignon. The Young Inglewood Vineyard is the estate vineyard located at the base of the Mayacamas with a gentle slope and gravelly loam soil. Sustainable and organic farming practices are used to enhance the health of the vines. This bottling is fermented in stainless steel tanks with around two to three weeks on the skins. Aged in 25% new French oak barrels for 20 months. Only 209 cases produced and 14.3% alcohol.
