2013 Dane Cellars Zinfandel Los Chamizal
Last of the threesome of reds from Dane Cellars. Deep crimson red with garnet edges. We also tried this one over three days. Started out with an attack of white pepper, purple floral notes, something a little unripe and green. Moderate tannins (7/10) with some earthy and rustic notes. Opened up with some more red cherries and lavender after a few hours. Moderate plus body. On day two and three the palate developed some black pepper and savory notes. Still had something a little bitter in the finish. Slightly dry and long finish.
The Los Chamizal Vineyard is located in the Moon Mountain District of Sonoma Valley. The soil from the higher elevations is different from the soil of the lower elevations. For Los Chamizal Vineyard this soil is thin fractured basalt soils (at an elevation of around 800 ft) which are mineral rich in nutrients leading to bigger flavors like some found in this Zinfandel. Additionally this was fermented in small open top tanks, aged for 15 months in 40% new French oak barrels and is unfiltered.
2016 till 2024.
