2011 Domaine Georg Rafael Père & Fils Cabernet Sauvignon
Tasting Note:July 15, 2016
Garnet red. Truly an interesting nose. An onslaught of bell peppers and jalapeños, some light asparagus too. Day one on the palate was all vegetal with some light red fruits. Very interesting and we love interesting. Day two added in some savory and mineral notes like rocks. Also had a hint of darker fruits and some powdery element, similar to talc powder or even raw cocoa. Moderate tannins (5.5/10) and medium body. Dry moderate finish at best.
Made of 100% Cabernet Sauvignon from the Rafael Estate Vineyard in the Oak Knoll District. Aged for 22 months in 50% new French oak. Only 701 cases produced and 13.9% alcohol.
