2017 Aperture Cellars Barrel-Fermented Sauvignon Blanc

Estate: Aperture Cellars
Region: Bennett Valley, Sonoma County, North Coast, California, United States of America
Vineyard: Dry Stack Vineyard

Tasting Note:May 25, 2018

Second wine tasted at Aperture Cellars with Lauren. Pale lemon lime yellow. A bit of hay on the nose to start followed up by some lemon zest. Nice sharpness on the palate with medium plus acidity (7.5/10) and medium to medium plus body. Refreshing palate with a touch of white flowers, sandy crushed rocks and some green tree fruits. Long finish that needs a little bit of air to open up.

This Sauvignon Blanc (96%) has a touch of Semillon (4%) and is all from the Dry Stack Vineyard in Bennett Valley. It is aged in 100% French oak, of which around 30% new French oak, of which 10% uses the exact same program as Haut Brion with acacia heads.

First stop on our very first trip to Sonoma, and we were not dissappointed. The wines made by Jesse Katz have a ton of finesse, power and character. Definitely a winery for any wine lover or collector to have on their radar. Stay tuned for some exciting new wines coming out in the 2017 vintage, possibly an old vine Zinfandel. Also a must visit for art and photography lovers.
