2013 Shafer Cabernet Sauvignon Hillside Select

Tasting Note:May 29, 2018

Dark purplish ruby red that completely coats the glass. Red profile on the attack of the nose with black cherries, violets and spices. Heavy tannins (8.5/10) and full bodied. Rich and plush on the palate with dark red berries, raspberries, black currants, cassis, vanilla, cocoa and nutmeg. A touch dry in the long and lingering finish.


Third and last winery on our third day in Napa Valley is Shafer Vineyards located on the east side of the valley in the Stags Leap District. Fifth wine is their flagship bottling, the Hillside Select Cabernet Sauvignon, with fruit coming from their Hillside Estate Vineyards in the Stags Leap District. Made by Elias Fernandez and made up of 100% Cabernet Sauvignon. Aged for 32 months in 100% new French oak barrels.
