2012 Quilceda Creek Palengat Proprietary Red Wine

Estate: Quilceda Creek Vintners
Region: Horse Heaven Hills, Columbia Valley, Washington State, United States of America
Vineyards: Champoux, Palengat, Tapteil and Wallula Vineyards

Tasting Note:August 12, 2017

First of the seven blind reds we are tasting through this evening. We are tasting through a few wines in order to determine if we want to stay on the wine lists or not. This one is perfect for #WAWINEMONTH.

Deep ruby red with almost garnet on the edges. Tight nose with some spices, vanilla, cinnamon and bold fruits. A lot darker on day two with darker sweet spices and super thick and dark powdered cocoa. On day one this seemed too young with the alcohol not having fully integrated yet. Very powerful and young with sweet and woody tannins (6.5/10). Medium plus bodied with some dark black cherries, vanilla beans, tons of dark chocolate and some coconut. Long finish. Not a ton of fruit on the nose or palate, more reserved and definitely needs some time to integrate and develop further.

This is made up of 59% Merlot, 29% Cabernet Sauvignon, 7% Cabernet Franc and 5% Petit Verdot. Aged for 20 months in 100% new French oak barrels. Note for the future, give this baby some air!

Drink Dates:

Price Point:

Deep garnet to ruby red. Interesting nose that started a bit tight with toasted coconut and dark cocoa leading to blackberry liquor as well as pencil shavings. Thick and dark on the palate with moderate tannins (7/10) that carry through the midpalate. Dark gravel, black cherries and tons of dark cocoa on the palate. A touch of spices too. Very dark and brooding palate with a touch of acidity near the finish. Medium plus body with a long finish. If you drink now give a good decant.
