2009 La Massa Giorgio Primo

Estate: La Massa

Region: Tuscany, Italy

Celebratory dinner at Restuarant I Ricchi in DC.

Tasting Note:March 10, 2017

Deep ruby red. Lovely nose, deep and dark. Thick too with layers of dark fruit like blackberries, spices, dark cocoa, truffles, and mushrooms. Great acidity with moderate tannins (7/10). Full bodied with some earthy notes, blackberries, black currants, a touch woody and a little damp forest floor. Long finish and a touch dry. A ton more fruit than we were expecting for a Bordeaux blend from Tuscany.

Delicious Bordeaux-blend made up of 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 35% Merlot and 5% Petit Verdot. Aged for 18 months in 100% new French oak barriques. Only 16,000 bottles produced.
