2011 Venteux Vineyards Grenache

Estate: Venteux Vineyards
Region: Paso Robles, Central Coast, California, United States of America
Vineyards: Alisos Canyon, Rolph and Starr Ranch Vineyards

Tasting Note:June 4, 2016

Last of the three reds we tried from Venteux Vineyards. Garnet red with some slight bricking on the edges. Loved the start of the nose, with some gamey notes and opened up to some more white and purple floral notes. Cherry cola on the palate, in taste and texture. A little bit of heat with lots of red cherries. After leaving it open for a couple hours it added lot of floral notes to the palate. Moderate tannins (5.5/10) and medium bodied. Moderate plus finish. Needed the few hours to integrate and blow off a little bit of that heat.

Venteux Vineyards is a small family owned estate that produces red and whites ranging from Old Vine Carignan, Gewürztraminer, Pinot Noir, Cabernet Sauvignon and many more. The entire wine-making philosophy is hands on, starting from dry farming and hand sorting to minimal intervention with only wild native yeasts. This bottling of this Grenache is aged for 18 months in no more than 3 year old French oak barrels. After bottling all wines are laid down for 12 months before release. Only 329 cases produced.
