2004 Vilafonté Series M
Blind Friday night tasting at home after traveling all week. This is the sixth wine of the tasting. Dark garnet red with lighter edges. Layered nose with damp forest floor and red berries. Medium tannins (6/10) and medium to medium plus bodied. Very well integrated with spices, dark damp earthy notes, mushrooms and blackberries. Long and lingering finish. WOTN.
Series M is Vilafonté's blend led by Merlot and Malbec with a little Cabernet Sauvignon for structure. This was an interesting vintage which was actually let by Cabernet Sauvignon with 36% and followed with 31% Merlot, 25% Malbec and 8% Cabernet Franc all from the Vilafonté Vineyard. This is aged for 19 months in 100% French oak, of which 37.4% were new and then an additional year in the bottle prior to release. Only 1,763 cases produced.

Medium garnet red. Aged nose with a touch of dirty cellar, forest floor and damp leaves. Medium tannins (6/10) with good acidity and medium to medium plus bodied. Layered palate with earthiness, truffles, spices and dark berries. Medium plus to long finish.

Moderate tannins (6/10) and moderate plus body. Lots of cassis, black currants, with some black cherries too. Rich, powerful and thick. A light herbaceous in the finish. Moderate plus finish. Silky till the very dry finish. Beautiful wine, well integrated and everything is fitting well together. Very dry and long finish.
