2014 Yount Ridge Cellars Epic
Deep and dark purplish ruby core. Still a baby on the nose that could definitely use a few more years in the bottle or at least a six hour decant. Tight nose with notes of iron, anise, dark berries, purple flowers and some dark baking spices. Opened up with a bit of cinnamon and charred oak on day two. Medium plus to heavy tannins (7.5/10) and full bodied. Dark and rich on the palate with a bit of grittiness. Layers of black fruits, black currants, cassis, cinnamon, touch vanilla and dark gravel. Long finish with solid acidity.
Last of the blind wines this evening, a few ringers amongst the three Celia Welch wines we were trying tonight. This last wine is the flagship bottling from Yount Ridge Cellars, the Epic. Which is from the Yount Ridge Vineyard in Oakville and made by Celia Welch from Scarecrow. This is made out of 100% Cabernet Sauvignon. Aged in 70% new French oak for 20 months and only 240 cases produced.
2018 till 2038.
