1971 Château Semeillan-Mazeau
Region: Listrac-Médoc, Médoc, Bordeaux, France
Deep garnet red. Muted nose, needs some time to fully open up, has some layers of bark, cedar, dark cocoa, a touch of anise, herbs and a little earthiness. Heavy tannins (8/10) and full bodied. After some breathing time this finally started to open up on the palate with some layers of damp leaves, earthiness, cherries, and tight truffles. Dry and super long finish.
First time to Bern's Steakhouse in Tampa and it was a blast, definitely worth checking out if you have not. We asked out somm, Mark, that we wanted something old and under $100.00. He delivered, it was an amazing experience tasting our oldest table wine yet. Château Semeillan-Mazeau is located on the Left Bank of Bordeaux. The vineyards are made up of 50% Cabernet Sauvignon and 50% Merlot. Generally these wines are aged for 18 months in 30% new French oak barrels.
