2012 Joseph Phelps Insignia

Estate: Joseph Phelps Vineyards

Region: Napa Valley, North Coast, California, United States of America

Tasting Note:October 5, 2015

The Phelps estate is beautiful and an amazing work of architecture. We attended the Insignia Blending. The color was an opaque dark red. The nose was very earthy with some green notes like bell peppers. Might have been a little tight. Very strong tannins that made my mouth feel like sandpaper. Finish was dry and slightly metallic. Obviously way to young to try now. Would be nice to try again in the future.

Made up of 75% Cabernet Sauvignon, 10% Petit Verdot, 10% Merlot, 3% Malbec and 2% Cabernet Franc. The vineyards going into this bottling include: Barboza and Las Rocas in Stags Leap District, Suscol in Southern Napa, Home Ranch in St. Helena, Yountville in Oak Knoll District, and Banca Dorada in Rutherford. Aged for 24 months in 100% new French oak.
