2012 Marqués de Murrieta Reserva

Estate: Marqués de Murrieta
Region: Rioja, La Rioja, Spain
Vineyard: Ygay Estate

Tasting Note:September 26, 2017

Medium ruby red. A touch of vanilla on the nose from the American oak, herbal notes, oaky and dark cherries. Solid acidity with medium tannins (5/10) and light plus to medium bodied. A bit green on the palate with red cherries, dark bitter cocoa and a touch of earth. Better on day two, more integrated and smoother. Medium plus finish.

This is made up of 77% Tempranillo, 10% Grenacha, 8% Graciano and 5% Mazuelo. Aged for 23 months in 225L American oak barrels, with at least 9 of those months in new oak. Additionally this spends 12 months in the bottle prior to release. This is all in alignment with Rioja Reserva requirements of 3 years of aging prior to release, usually it is 1 year in oak and 2 years in bottle.
